What these three measures mean
Salary is a monthly gross earnings measure. Income is annual pretax national income per adult. Wealth is net household wealth per adult, meaning assets minus debt. These measures answer different questions and should not be added together.
The salary distribution is the latest comparable Eurostat survey slice for Portugal, from 2022. The WID income and wealth series run through 2024 and are estimates that combine national accounts, fiscal records and surveys. They are useful for showing the shape of the distribution, while the exact thresholds can be revised.
